It is free to download. The only draw back that I see is that each party must have Skype for you to get the service for free. If you call a landline or cell phone you have to pay fees.

Yahoo messenger phone service has improved over the years. And it is a great way to stay in touch. Both parties just have to be logged in on yahoo messenger.
